I have copied the list (the original list) including the message onto a Notecard, refering to the URL of this topic.

Sending it through the groups I am able to, which included the InWorldz Welcome Group.

If anyone wants the notecard to send around, let me know either here or Inworld.

Ps, twice the list is not needed and makes this topic unnecesairily long in my oppinion.

I hate to disagree Benski, but alphabetical order makes more sense to me.

i agree with Ark..."Alphabetical" is the only way a Long list like that should be presented.

Yes I agree Alphabetic is logical. I would not have gone for reposting the list though. That's all.

Well here's my 2 cents worth - Why not just say All or Most of Inworldz will be down on Tuesday for an announcement.

    T M I !

Also Alphabetical order ? Really people if you have to make that sort of comment - My advice to you is:

    "DON'T"

    Peace all - Merry Christmas!

RadioRoy said: "Well here's my 2 cents worth - Why not just say All or Most of Inworldz will be down on Tuesday for an announcement. T M I !"

Because it won't be, that's (probably a lot) less than half the regions on InWorldz.

RadioRoy also said: "Also Alphabetical order ? Really people if you have to make that sort of comment - My advice to you is: 'DON'T'"

Given that not all the sims will be down (see above) it's easier to see if your own sim is going to be down if the list is alphabetically ordered.

Thank you for the listing in alphabetical  :)

As for all of InWorldz? Not even close. We'll do these spaced apart that way you have plenty of warning when your region(s) will be down.

thank you, thank you, and yes it would be nice to have it in Alphabetical order but hey at least we can find our own sim and (thats all I really care about.... having things spaced out means I can log in somewhere else if my sim is down... thats what is important and to make sure I have my clothes on...lol.... lighten up I am happy some changes or what ever is going to take place is something good...

and it is  Happy Holidays in my IW.... let it continue to be a fantastic, Inworldz has always been my favorite  holiday season, I can do things I cant do in RL like ice skate....hugs

and cheers to the devs, who call themselves "web monkeys"... Bananas for all!

Unfortunately I had to buy them in the supermarket, because this year the bananas mine in Inworldz is offline due to all the christmas trees... which is a good sign after all, there are many more christmas stuff this year than last year

Oh dear ...server maintenance.. that  means   naked afk avatars dropping in to  IDI ...and  also a the usual arrivals bellyaching and  screaming that their region is offline and  they want a mentor to contact the founders and fix it "right now"..

Of course, explaining the  server maintenance etc  wont  help   they will complain  they were not advised and that they were in the middle of a special build  when the  region went offline

But on the positive side,  we get to see regulars who we have not seen for a year ..and we can  wish them a "Merry Christmas"!    :-)

Would it be easier/quicker/less strain on the servers to just pull the plug for a few  hours then bring up the entire grid end-to-end all updated vs doing it all live while people are on and the servers are ALSO trying to do their thing as normal?

As Honey mentioned a live update could really cause some chaos.

When will next server be restarted for it's yearly update and related set of regions concerned?

I think we kind of got a answer here https://inworldz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115004247514-Happy-2018-

Jim has limited time now and nobody been hired yet, Maybe we get answers at the inews thing in the next week or so.

When you post a question here, you are asking the other residents for help. The forum is for peer-to-peer discussions, not for questions to founders or support questions. You will only get responses from other residents, or answers like this directing you to a more effective place to ask.

Many residents have expressed the opinion that it is very important to post technical questions to other residents too, and we do see the usefulness of that (e.g. with the recent comments on uploading worn mesh), but you should be very aware that this forum itself is not a support mechanism for the InWorldz organization.

It is also used as an additional method of trying to keep the residents informed with announcements like the one that started this thread, but those are announcements that you should discuss directly with Elenia if you have further concerns or questions.

If you have a technical issue, or a question for InWorldz Support, there is a support submission link in the top-right corner of every page here. If you just have a policy or non-technical question specifically for Elenia, by all means ask her directly so that she sees it and can respond. Posting a question here will not achieve that.

I am not usually reading the posts in this peer discussion forum, and will rarely post anything here. Today is an exception.  Please see http://jim.tarber.net/?p=450 for more.

Jim, I strongly disagree. You won't know if something is a general problem or unique to a single user if you don't use a forum on which people can post 'me too'. Also, the response to technical support tickets seems to take a long time these days (I still have one outstanding from 3 weeks ago).

Personally, I think the decision to move away from the old style and range of forums (if not the software it ran on) was a retrograde step.

Ark, see my second paragraph, I was highlighting what you just said (before you said it). ;)

And yes, the older forum software was more dedicated to forum activities than this one, but it was abandoned for important organizational reasons after many recurring problems. This one still provides the ability for residents to discuss topics of interest, and to help each other.

So you would like someone to draw your attention to appropriate forum threads ? I'd be happy to do that if it would help.

Ark, no. I thought I was clear above but it doesn't seem to be getting recognized yet:  Anything intended for the InWorldz organization (Elenia or Support or me) should not be posted in this (resident discussion) forum. It should be one of the reporting places I've listed in my blog post: Support requests, Mantis bug reports, GitHub issues post, or direct IM if it's none of the above and just a message meant for a specific person.

    > You won't know if something is a general problem or unique to a single user if you don't use a forum on which people can post 'me too'.

That's fine to do for the user's own needs if they think it may also help, but folks need to stop posting questions for Support in the forum. Posting in the forum is useful if the user wants responses only from other residents (which is fine in many cases).

However, maybe it will be understood better if I use Ark's wording: if residents post this stuff only in the forum, Support and I won't know if something is a general problem or unique to a single user, if the residents experiencing a problem don't report it to Support, and instead think that posting it in the forum is somehow effective.

People ask all the time why we haven't fixed some problem X. The answer is because nobody reported it. Forum posts do not count. There may be discussions about it in clubs, or meetings, or the forum, but if it isn't reported to Support or the Mantis then there is a very good chance that when someone reports it, the people who are here to help and fix the problem will think you're the only one who has seen this problem.  You can fight Support and Development, or we can work as a team with several specialized and nicely-tracked problem reporting systems.

If you want to help when there's an off-process posting here that is not intended for other residents, please just point them in the correct direction (Support, Mantis, whatever).  When in doubt, a Support Request will at least answer what the best place is or the next step is.  The forum is only for feedback from other residents. I don't want to be alerted to posts here because they are bypassing the proper process, the status and resolution is not tracked, Support remains unaware of a problem people are having, and the discussion is quickly lost in the crowd of other posts.

And folks, please don't guess at answers unless you are directly involved in something.  If they don't get the correct info, it can lead to frustration for new residents because they thought this was the place to ask, just because someone answered.  If you want to help with such a question, refer the user to the support request link above.
